In the magazine, devoted to the stenciled print-"serinprinting", in number 2 (08) 2003, the article, named: "Journalism and stenciled printing. Which of them was earlier?" was published. The authors of this article are the specialists of "Deko Media" company - Elena Shepilova and Sergey Verbitsky. The article's text is following. A historical excursus. Leather. How many things sound in this world for a Russian heart…I beg the classic's pardon, but according to leather it is just the style to say about, using such notions as classics, history, traditions, quality, softness, warmness and even emotion state. If one ponders over, all of us respect this word "leather". It is an old checked friend. It is so old, that the question is raising, if really "tanner" is older than "journalist" or some other well known professions. And it isn't a funny analogy. According to the archive's documents one can see some pictures and signs, cut on the ancient rocks by our ancestors. We can see them only because rocks are much more durable than the animal's leather. Though it is quite logical to suppose that it was much easier for an ancient may to paint something on an animal's skin, than to cut pictures on the rocks. And one considers, that those pictures, so called "reporting" about the lucky hunting and other heroically moments of the ancient man's life are the basis of the modern journalism. And if we don't look into ancient times, using only fixed documents, we can see, that the first official evidence were the patch mental scrolls , dated in 2 age b. a. In Perham (the capital of the Perham kingdom - the Asia Minor state - 283 - 133 b. a. which name was used for wildly known information bearer) the handicraft's men used the animals leather for making oil-paper. Oil-paper is a tanned skin, manufactured of cows and pigs skins. And even according to the formal indications the haberdashers were ahead the world even if it was a step. Don't worry Mrs. Journalists and any other representatives of ancient professions! It's a grip to think about the powerful community 0f our historical routes! Now journalists use quite other bearers of information, but nevertheless the necessaries of using leather for printing is quite actual and nowadays. Aiming to print any information of leather namely on the leather cutting one can use several the most popular methods: leather stamping, tamp printing, silkscreen printing, laser engraving, leather incrustation. The method of superficial imprinting The most wide spread method is, no doubt, stamping. It secures the maximum permission while translation any imprint. Both a picture and a text. Serious, but not sole restriction is high cost of a clichй's manufacturing. But the brass clichй is worth of money as it considers to be ever lasting and there are no instructions for impression's quantity. The magnium and zink clichй don't so long life but for several kicks they are fit for. The other restriction is the thickness of the lines, if it will be less than 0,5 mm or leather may be cut under kick. Stamping may be blind with foil use and in relief (in fact, one produces 2 clichйs). Blind is more effective for stamping of leather of light shades. Foil is preferable for dark leather. The restrictions in foil's using may arise because of leather texture. For example, on one of new lines of our production - the production of business souvenirs from exotic animals' leather we had difficulties while stamping with foil the leather of fish. Naturally as this leather has its texture the foil stamping wasn't so even as in case of the ostrich's or the monitor lizard's leather. Therefore in this case we used only blind stamping. In case we use the "Chameleon" leather we have a very interesting effect as it changes its colour while touching by a man. In no moment it becomes white being touched by any hot thing, such as a cup of a fresh tea or coffee or hot clichй, during stamping. After that the leather restores its colour, but being heated by hands, it becomes white gradually and all its burns, as if it complains The method of coating of an imprint to leather by the tamp printing is used rather seldom because of limits in area of use, and then this method can be used effectively only in case of a flat even surface or any imprint may be distorted. And the tampon method is for the serial production, what can't be suit for many clients. The silkscreen printing has many technological priorities than above, but has a row of essential defects. One of priorities is the large zone of coating when relatively small material expenditures. The net for stenciled printing can be produced in rather short time, what can diminish the order's term. A negative moment is a sensibleness to the leather's texture, its nap, the difficulties of works with leather in articles, leather's colour. Some difficulties of stenciled printing Our man has a habit that if the inscription "The book of honor" must be stamped on the leather cover together with a vignette along perimeter with gold (at least silver), but not crimson or violet colour. That is well, as the metal-containing paints are better for leather. The other colours are more unforeseen and fastidious to leather. They need the even leather. Or points fill small chaps and folds of leather. It is possible to struggle against it. Any master has his own secrets and contrivances, but mainly that is the mixing into paints some chemical additions to prevent the paints to spread. One can try to convince the clients to choose the other leather, but is more difficult than to suppress paints. Of course, one can use barbarian methods - to drift the white rubber backing on the natural leather and in this case everything will be distinct and bright. But it is just the same as to kiss your girl in live trough a gas-mask. You understand me. The difficulties can raise when polishing a picture on a paper case or a year book for stamping. But one must choose the scraper, install the distance between net and the surface (in these articles one uses the chemical flexible mass and surface may "go"), but to achieve the lock you need it is necessary to go through 2-3 times, to have an interval for painting and then to make 2-3 paint drives. But before the circulation ( I consider it to be acceptable for all technologies) it is necessary to take one piece for "tearing to pieces" and to train to have confidence that all will be O.K. And what concerns any other variants, as the laser graving, the leather's incrustation and some others< they are perspective, at any way, but our clients are less interested in those technologies. We have the glorious historical past and God ordered us to maintain and to develop our honorable traditions of the leather printing in Russia. P. S. Besides, what about the haberdashery leather master's day in Russia? We have the journalist's Day, a militia men's Day the whole country celebrates, we celebrated The Day of munitipals… Is it the historical injustice? ! I take the opportunity to apply to all haberdashery leather masters of our country. Let's write our message to V.V. Putin! Let our holiday be! Hura!
